What to expect at a dental school clinic

• A screening comes first. Most schools start with a screening visit to see whether your needs fit their teaching program. Not everyone is accepted as a student-clinic patient.
• Appointments are long. Student visits often run 2–3 hours, and treatment usually takes more visits than at a private office.
• Every step is checked. Students work under licensed faculty dentists who review the work.
• Schedules follow the school year. Clinics can slow down or close during academic breaks, and waitlists are common.
• Ask about cost up front. Request a written treatment plan with fees before work begins.
